August 2013

This month I have been busy creating 2 paintings of York. These are going to be available soon as limited edition prints at The Braithwaite Gallery at Lower Petergate in York. This is a lovely gallery owned and run by the artist Mark Braithwaite and his wife Anne, you can get further information at their website: http://www.yorkartist.com/

July 2013

This month I have been working on a couple of paintings. The first has been a commission for a lovely couple, painting their beautiful house and garden and of course including themselves and their family to complete the scene.
The second has been a painting of The Strand in Derby, a lovely old street in Derby which has beautiful buildings and which has recently been given a new lease of life with lots of independent shops all with beautiful shop fronts designed to show the original character of the area. This painting will be hanging in "Baked"cafe on the Strand.

February 2013

I've just finished my latest painting. I focus on the characters more than the place in this one. I enjoyed doing something a bit different and it was nice being able to add more detail to people who are usually too tiny.

I've finished 2 paintings this month, both of lovely seaside towns.
The first is Lynmouth and the second is Newquay

September 2012

This month I have moved into studio 4.4 of Banks Mill. It is a lovely studio, the perfect size for me and hopefully I may get a bit more healthy as it is on the 4th floor!
I have recently completed a commission for a lovely couple which was of a local village but as it was over 100 years ago. This was a really interesting painting to make as it involved lots of research and also I included family members which made it all the more personal to them. I was really pleased with how the painting turned out ( pictures to be added to my website soon).

August 2012

I have just finished this painting of Chatsworth, which was inspired by a visit there in April when there was still snow on the hills and definitely nobody paddling in the waterfall! The building was quite a challenge and there's a lot more green in the picture than usual but Chatsworth is surrounded by beautiful countryside which just had to be included along with the lovely sheep that roam all over the fields and roads without a care in the world!

July 2012

This month I have been working on some paintings for Buckingham Fine Art Publishers. I have painted Chester, which was lovely with so many beautiful buildings to choose from.
I have also painted Torquay

November 2011

My first solo exhibition is now showing at Derby Cathedral Centre and will be there until the end of November.

This weekend ( 28th to 30th May ) I will be taking part in Derbyshire Open Arts at Banks Mill Studios in Derby.
My work can now also be seen at St John Street Gallery in Ashbourne.

May 2011

I have at last finished my painting of Irongate in Derby! I've been working for some time but now it's finished I just need to get it scanned and then I will be able to add it to my online portfolio and get some prints made of it.
At the end of May I'm going to be taking part in Derbyshire Open Arts. Artists studios all over Derbyshire will be opening up to the public from Saturday 28th to Monday 30th May and you can go along and see the artists at work and have a chat. I will be working alongside 12 lovely artists at Banks Mill Studios in Derby so if you're around over the weekend please drop in.

April 2011

I've been working hard trying to complete a painting that I have been working on for quite some time now. It is of Irongate in Derby and is almost double the size of any painting that I have done before. Although this means it has taken longer to complete it has also meant I can include a lot more detail into the image, I like how it's turning out and will definately work on this scale again. The painting part is almost finished I've just got a lot of ink to go on and it will be done.
My work is now for sale at the very lovely Gallery 52 at Brailsford. It is full of beautiful arts and crafts and is well worth a visit if you are looking for a gift or just want to treat yourself!
I have just found out that West Hallam Well Dressing will be using my well dressing image for the marketing of their event in July. I will also be having a stall at the Arts Market there on Saturday 9th July so I had better get planning for that as time seems to fly by at the moment.

October 2010

This month my painting 'Royal Avenue' was exhibited at The Octagon in Bath as a finalist in the annual competition The Bath Prize. In this competition you are given a specific area of the city to paint when you register. Royal Avenue runs through a grassy park area of Bath which was a bit of a challenge as I prefer to paint buildings but I was pleased with the finished painting and it was great having my work on show in such a beautiful city.

I am now working on a painting of Irongate in Derby. It is a beautiful area of the city with some lovely buildings including Derby Cathedral. There are some tiny little streets which run off Irongate, such as Amen Alley which lies next to the Cathedral that should make it very interesting to paint. This will also be larger than my previous paintings so will probably take me quite some time to complete.

I have also been busy making 18 small paper mache fairies for Derby Museum and Art Gallery Shop which I should be delivering to them soon ready for their Christmas display.
